Anyone can learn calligraphy. Like all other art forms, calligraphy takes practice and diligence. In terms of tools, there are a variety of calligraphy pens and kits to choose from. Calligraphy kits usually consist of a nib holder and a range of nibs, with a starter-size container of ink.
The beginner in calligraphy starts off with lessons in simple fonts which are written using different edge nibs, and of different sizes, as well. Beginning with sans serif and serif fonts, the subtlety of the art is learned with the variations between fonts. The student then moves forward to more advanced styles and more intricately designed fonts, including germanic, and old english fonts. The student calligrapher can also move forward with more nibs and other calligraphy kits.
Common starter kits have 4 or 5 nibs, with a choice of flat, straight, slanted, rounded or oval edged. Some starter kits have nibs of various edges, or sizes. These starter kits afford the beginner enough leeway in how they can practice, and to do the exercises for the various nib styles.
